Bread!

I made bread. It was the best bread I have ever had. Hot out of the oven with a bit of real butter. Mmm. It is amazing how easy, inexpensive, filling and tasty it is.

Snow Around These Parts

One of the surprising things about Colorado is that there usually is no snow on the ground. That changed yesterday.
There was some in snow on the foothills too.

Weather Station

I figured with the new job and all I should start paying attention to the weather. Ended up picking up a top of the line (Oregon Scientific Weather 500, $41 at Target) consumer model. I don't have anywhere to put a rain or wind guage so no need to go for the professional version.

Once setup it operates very well. The setup is a pain in the hind end as the documentation is not very complete. One of my largest problems is that neighbors already had sensors and I needed to set mine to use the third frequency channel. That took a good 20 minutes to figure out. Really very easy. Just hold the up arrow and mode button to get it to detect the remote sensor and then hit the up or down arrows to change which frequency it should be sensing on.

For the outside sensor I needed to be a bit creative to be able to keep it dry. This setup is going to be modified by cutting the ends of the lid off and then putting the cover on as normal.

Rusted Spark Plug

This is what happens when you don't change your spark plugs as often as you should. Then you have to get luckey to get the threads out, or take the entire engine apart.

Fire

As the fire was sweeping towards my apartment and the fire department was reverse 911 calling people to tell them to evacuate, I took a second to notice the small flame in my fireplace safely burning.

It is good to be reminded every once in a while who is really in charge.

Several Observations

I have an internet connection!

Chairs are the foundation of living a comfortable life. Don’t believe me? Just try to go through a day without a chair, couch or bed (sleeping bag + mat are OK).

When constructing a house, make the switches and dials that people interact with on a frequent basis the same level.

A corollary to the previous, make light switches that are on the wall when you enter a room, the same distance away from the doorway.

It is strange being “young” and feeling like I have to go to bed at 6pm because I am so exhausted. Granted the day started at 6:30am and I was moving household items all over the apartment all day long. And I am sick.

I am now a card carry Libertarian.
